Compare Excel values and formulas
Compare formula expressions and cached cell values in two XLSX workbooks locally. Inspect changes separately and download the complete report.
Choose your two workbooks
The first file is the earlier workbook; the second is the later workbook.
Two XLSX files · 128 MiB combined limit · Files stay in your browser
- Choose two XLSX files: earlier first, later second
- Review cell and formula differences between matching sheets
- Download the comparison as JSON
Find changes between two workbooks
Compare cells by position in matching worksheets and distinguish formula changes from changed stored results.
For example, compare an earlier stock report with its updated version and download a JSON report of the differences.
How it works
- Choose two XLSX files together, with the earlier file first.
- Review matching worksheets and select values, formulas or both.
- Download the comparison JSON report.
Output and limitations
This is a positional comparison. Reordered rows can appear as many changes; rows are not matched by a business key. Formula text and stored results are compared separately.
Keep a copy of your original workbook and review downloaded results before using them.
Frequently asked questions
Does comparison match records by an ID column?
No. It compares cells by position in matching sheets. Sorting or reordering rows can therefore produce many positional differences.
Can equal results hide a formula change?
The formulas-and-values mode reports changed formulas separately from stored cell results, including when the results are equal.
Is my workbook uploaded to a server?
The anonymous browser file tools process workbook contents locally. The website still makes ordinary requests for pages and sample files. Read the privacy page for details.
Which Excel files can I open?
Choose XLSX files with a combined size of 128 MiB or less. Legacy XLS files and password-protected or encrypted workbooks are not supported.
